3 out of 17 DUI probationers in Marin caught with alcohol

December 12, 2024 by Marin 1 Comment

Probation officers prepare to check the residents of a probationer during the DUI sweep on December 11, 2024.

On December 11, the Marin County Probation Department’s Specialty Courts Unit successfully carried out its Fourth Quarter DUI Sweep, focused on 29 individuals on active probation for high risk and repeat offenses.

During the operation, officers contacted 17 out of 29 individuals and conducted searches of their homes and vehicles. Three individuals tested positive for alcohol, a violation of their probation terms. As a result, one individual was taken to a hospital, another was arrested, and a third was placed on graduated sanctioned color testing. Additionally, nine individuals underwent breath tests, and four ignition interlock devices were checked.

The operation was made possible through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, which funds initiatives aimed at reducing traffic fatalities and injuries on California roadways. The grant provides critical resources to enhance public safety while supporting individuals under probation supervision. The primary goal of the operation is to balance public safety with rehabilitation, ensuring that those under supervision receive the necessary support to reintegrate successfully into the community. This effort is further strengthened by close collaboration with local law enforcement agencies and healthcare providers to ensure effective communication and coordination.

As peace officers, it is the officers’ duty to ensure individuals on probation adhere to the terms of their supervision while also protecting the community. The Marin County Probation Department remains committed to supporting individuals on active probation, helping them meet the conditions of their supervision, and providing the resources needed to support their successful reintegration into society.
