March 25, 2024 by Marin 2 Comments

Novato Police Department report:

On March 24, 2024, around 4:30 PM, the Novato Fire Protection District and the Novato Police Department responded to a report of a person who lit a house on fire on Alameda De La Loma and was leaving the scene.

After searching the area, a woman was located matching the suspect description provided by the reporting witness. She was identified as 41-year-old Amy Lewis and was questioned regarding the fire.

Further investigation revealed Lewis had approached the residence for unknown reasons and lit something on fire on the upper porch entrance. The fire caused significant damage to both the interior and exterior of the home. The homeowners did not know Lewis and were not home at the time the fire was started. Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident and the fire was quickly extinguished by Novato Fire Protection District personnel.

Novato Police Crime Scene Investigations staff, Detectives, and a Fire Mitigation Ranger responded to assist Novato Fire with the investigation, collect evidence, and process the scene. Responding officers gathered witness statements at the scene and collected video surveillance footage related to the incident.

Lewis was arrested for felony arson. She was taken into custody due to effective teamwork and communication with the Novato Fire Protection District. We are extremely grateful for our community members who provided accurate and timely information, ultimately leading to the arrest.

It is important to stay aware of fire dangers, especially with fire season quickly approaching. We can help reduce crime in our community together. When suspicious activity arises, give us a call day (415-897-4361) or night (415-897-1122). As always, call 9-1-1 in an emergency. Stay safe Novato!
