This is a public safety alert from the Marin County Sheriff:
On 4/16/2024, Southern Marin Deputies were dispatched to a residence for a report of a suspicious person with a firearm seen.
It was determined high school students in the Marin area were engaged in a game called, “Senior Assassin Challenge” in which students shoot toy water guns at each other.

This is a photo of an imitation water gun firearm similar to the one located on the high school student. The water guns fit the definition of imitation firearm as described in 16700 PC- Imitation Firearm Defined; and the violation for displaying an imitation firearm in a public place is 20170 PC, (an infraction.) While the criminal violation for displaying this type of water gun is relatively minor, the implications of mistaking this weapon as real are significant and could lead to serious injury or death.
Nationwide, it appears various police agencies are encountering juveniles displaying toy water guns in public places which resemble real firearms, many of which have been connected to this “Senior Assassin Challenge”.
Please inform your children the dangers of this and the seriousness of this type of behavior. There are many other ways to spend time pulling pranks and having fun in your senior year than using imitation firearms.
Be safe, make smart decisions and don’t put yourself or others at risk.
