In a previous column, I raised the hope that Nevada’s senior U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Mastos might be in a perfect position to lead her party out of the current crisis on the Mexican border.
Ms. Cortez Mastos’ grandfather immigrated from Mexico to better himself and his family. And, he did. His son, Manny, grew up to become a local politician and a mover and a shaker in the blow-and-go years of Las Vegas tourism. His granddaughter – Ms. Cortez-Mastos – won election to the U.S. senate, replacing the legendary Sen. Harry Reid. Nice story, right?
Now comes an even more powerful and a more modern-day immigration story into the senator’s life.
At 4:30 a.m. on April 6 in Reno, an immigrant who crossed our border illegally at Rio Grande City, Texas, slammed his car into Kurt Englehart’s car and knocked the life out of him.
Mr. Englehart was a longtime campaign official for Ms. Cortez Mastos. According to page posted by staff following the crash, Kurt Englehart “proudly served Nevada and the country in the office and campaign of Senator Cortez Masto. A beloved figure across the state, Kurt was always eager to help a constituent at a moment’s notice. He touched many lives.”
The other driver – Elmer Rueda-Linares, pictured above – was three sheets to the wind. Police say he failed to stop at the scene, which means (I’m reading between the lines of reports here) that he also rendered no aid. Mr. Rueda-Linares was taken to Washoe County Jail where he was held on $100,000 bail. Federal agents have filed an “immigration detainer” on Mr. Rueda-Linares.

Mr englehart’s blood is on the hands of Sen masto-cortez and all of her democrat congress folks who turn a blind eye to the many problems illegal aliens are doing to this once great country. Sen chuck schumer had the temerity to shut down the impeachment hearing of myorkis. So yes by her silence all of these innocent victims blood is on their hands
