Sausalito showcases LGBTQ+ culture and heritage; number of events on tap in June

This June, Sausalito will celebrate, showcase, and support our LGBTQ+ community, culture, and history with Sausalito Pride.

Sausalito became a gay mecca after World War II. By the 1960s, there were more gay bars per capita here than in San Francisco. Despite this long and colorful history, our town didn’t celebrate its first Pride until 2023.

Bigger and better for 2024, this year’s Sausalito Pride features six unique events between June 12 and June 22.
Art Exhibit and Reception: Pride Not PrejudiceExhibit opens Wednesday, June 12 at Sausalito Center for the ArtsReception on Saturday, June 15 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m.A showcase of original artworks by 19 accomplished LGBTQIA+ California artists.
Library Presentation: Sausalito’s Surprising and Amazing Gay HistorySunday, June 16 at 6:30 p.m.Sausalito LibraryJoel Karr will share his research into Sausalito’s remarkably deep gay history.
Street Party: Town Night Out on Caledonia StreetThursday, June 20 from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.Caledonia Street at Johnson StreetAn outdoor party for Sausalito’s LGBTQ+ neighbors and allies to celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and acceptance.
Pride Reception: Friday With PrideFriday, June 21 from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m.Sausalito Center for the Arts at 750 BridgewayA celebration of Sausalito Pride with wine, drinks, appetizers, and art in advance of Pride Night at Jazz and Blues by the Bay.
Outdoor Concert: Pride Night at Jazz and Blues by the BayFriday, June 21 from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.Gabrielson ParkGroove to the soulful tunes of the Stephanie Teel Band in a vibrant, inclusive, atmosphere by the waterfront.
Benefit Show: A Night in DragSaturday, June 22 at 7:00 p.m.Gene Hiller Menswear at 729 BridgewayTickets are $100, with proceeds benefiting Sausalito PrideSome of the most fabulous drag queens around will grace the stage with their talent and fierce personalities.
