Three City Council seats up for election this year in Sausalito

May 27, 2024 by Marin Leave a Comment

Considering a run for Sausalito City Council? Three seats will be up for election on November 5, 2024. Each open seat has a four-year term.

To be eligible, candidates must be registered voters living within Sausalito city limits.

Key dates in the lead-up to the November election for prospective candidates:

  • On July 15, the nomination period opens, and candidates can schedule an appointment with the City Clerk to receive nomination papers. In order to qualify for the ballot, candidates must gather the signatures of not less than twenty nor more than thirty registered voters in Sausalito.

  • August 9 is the deadline for candidates to submit their nomination papers. As required by law, the Office of the City Clerk will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on the last day of filing.

The incumbents for the election are Melissa Blaustein, Janelle Kellman, and Ian Patrick Sobieski. If at least one of the three incumbents has not filed by 5:00 p.m. on August 9, the nomination period will be extended to Wednesday, August 14 for non-incumbents only.

As a resource for potential candidates, the Marin Women’s Political Action Committee (MWPAC) is hosting a two-part Run to Win training seminar on June 6 and June 13 for anyone interested in running for elected office. Topics covered will include endorsements, communications, FPPC compliance, and grass roots organizing.

Any questions about running for City Council can be directed to City Clerk Walfred Solorzano at cityclerk@sausalito.gov or (415) 289-4165.
