On Thursday, June 13, the Marin County Probation Department led a multiagency DUI operation targeting 60 offenders with multiple convictions for driving under the influence.
The operation, supported by the Novato Police Department, the California State Parks Department, the Marin County Sheriff’s Department, and the Marin County District Attorney’s Office, aimed to ensure that these offenders remained compliant with their probation terms.
Funded by a DUI grant from the Office of Traffic and Safety, this initiative allowed Probation to conduct compliance checks within the community. Such preventive safety measures are vital in supporting offenders’ rehabilitation while protecting the community. The operation involved visiting 52 homes, conducting 35 searches, administering 19 breathalyzer and drug tests, and verifying the installation of 10 ignition interlock devices. As a result, nine violations were addressed, leading to various sanctions, including arrests, referrals to a Detox Center, and an emergency response team to aid in severe alcohol poisoning cases. Six individuals tested positive for alcohol, and two had drug/marijuana violations.
Understanding our role in the community is essential. The Marin County Probation Department is deeply committed to safeguarding public safety while providing comprehensive support to those under our supervision. By focusing on rehabilitation and community protection, we aim to foster a safer, healthier environment for everyone.
