| At the June 20 meeting, the Fairfax Planning Commission discussed dark sky and light pollution reduction strategies. Several members of the public spoke as well. The principles of “dark sky” call for the reduction of outdoor lighting to enhance the view of the night sky. By reducing outdoor light levels and shielding light sources to direct light downwards, less obtrusive light trespass occurs since light is directed where needed, less energy is wasted, and stars are easier to see in the night sky. The natural world also benefits from less light pollution. At upcoming meetings the Commission will be formulating a recommendation to the Fairfax Town Council regarding actions the Town can take to achieve light pollution reduction goals. I live at Piper Ct. apartments where it is daylight bright 24/7.
We haven’t seen stars since EAH bought and remodeled the 9 triplexes here 6 years ago. I don’t know if you can convince them to tone them down, brightness wise, and/or with shields.
We have asked them years ago, but had no luck. They are more worried about C.Y.A. (cover you ass) situations if people trip and fall. It is so overwhelmingly bright it’s ridicules. If you can contact EAH to convince them to deal with this, you will have many happy people up here.
