Early this morning, an SRPD Officer observed a vehicle with an expired registration dated back to 2022 and made a traffic enforcement stop in the area of Francisco Boulevard East and Yacht Club Drive.
During the stop, a female passenger attempted to discard a large knife by opening the passenger door in front of the officers.
However, it became obvious what she was trying to do when she closed the door on the knife before it fell to the pavement. The female passenger was arrested for carrying and concealing a dirk and dagger and for trying to conceal evidence.
The driver of the vehicle was found to have a suspended driving privilege as the result of a prior DUI conviction. The driver was arrested for driving on a suspended license.
The vehicle was impounded for expired and registration fees due. During the investigation, officers discovered that the suspects had gang affiliations.
This was excellent police work that likely averted a future violent incident.
