Sideshows in San Rafael? Police say don’t try it

August 26, 2024 by Marin 1 Comment

As sideshow incidents continue throughout the greater Bay Area, the San Rafael Police Department wants to let our community know that we understand their concerns.

Sideshow Enforcement:

• The San Rafael Police Department will not tolerate sideshow activity.

• Sideshows are dangerous and illegal. Sideshows often lead to violence and serious injuries.

• Participants in sideshows are subject to arrest and prosecution. They can also be held liable for injuries to others and any property damages.

• Vehicles participating in sideshows will be impounded for up to 30 days – no exceptions.

• Community members are encouraged to call 9-1-1 to report sideshow activity.

Safety Tips:

• If you encounter sideshow activities or if you are caught in the middle of a sideshow, look for an alternate route that will allow you to bypass the sideshow activity.

• If you are involved in a vehicle collision with a sideshow participant, do not confront the individual; instead call 9-1-1 to report the incident.

• Do not engage with individuals participating in the sideshow. Do not try to stop the sideshow. Do not put yourself in danger or risk your life.

• If you see a sideshow, call 9-1-1 to report the activity, especially if there is an immediate safety threat.

• To report information regarding illegal sideshows, as well as vehicles and individuals involved in this activity, call the San Rafael Police Department at 415-485-3000 or go to www.SRPD.org/tips.
