Top items on the county’s plate include Grand Jury response and information on statewide ballot measures

September 19, 2024 by Marin Leave a Comment

The following provides a list of selected highlights from the Marin County Board of Supervisors agenda and is not meant to be an exhaustive list of the entire agenda. The County posts and distributes a full agenda for each Board of Supervisors meeting on the Thursdays prior to a scheduled Tuesday meeting.

September 24, 2024

Here are the top policy items on Supervisors’ agenda for Tuesday, September 24. The meeting is to begin at 9 AM.

Response to Grand Jury Report on Justice

The Marin County Civil Grand Jury released a report June 28 called “Marin County Justice Center: A Model for Change.” The Office of the County Executive will request the Board to concur and adopt its required response to the report. The County agreed with one finding and wholly or partially disagreed with seven findings. Four recommendations will not be implemented because they are not warranted or reasonable, and one will be implemented in the future. (Staff report)

Recommended Fee Adjustments

No earlier than 11 AM: The County needs to ensure that fees and charges keep pace with the cost of doing business, including the increasing cost of labor. County departments regularly review fees and propose changes to fees aligned with the budget process. Some fees within the Agriculture, Weights & Measures Department and the Community Development Agency are recommended for fee adjustments for the 2024-25 fiscal year. (Staff report).

Community Service Fund Applications

No earlier than 1:30 PM: Applications will be reviewed for the County’s Community Services Fund, a resource for nonprofits and other qualified organizations to receive grants of between $1,000 and $10,000 for one-time-only needs. Twice a year, grants applications are filed with the Office of the County Executive (OCE) and reviewed by OCE staff. Applicants must be registered with the Internal Revenue Service as a 501c3 charity or a tax-exempt organization that provides services to all Marin County residents. Cycle 1 closed August 31, and 45 requests were received. The total funding requested is $427,400; approximately $200,000 is the expected allocation. (Staff report).

Positions on Statewide Ballot Propositions

Staff from the Office of the County Executive plans to present an informational report and provide direction to staff regarding 10 statewide ballot propositions on the November 5 Statewide Ballot. With the County’s Legislative Platform, staff recommends that the County support, oppose, or remain neutral on each proposition and seeks Board direction on each measure. (Staff report).

See the County website for the full agenda, staff reports, meeting viewing and participation guidelines, and archival information.
