
Last month (November) an undercover detective with the Specialized Investigative Unit, was approached by a man, later Identified as Esteban Barahona, who offered to sell the detective cocaine.
The detective established a relationship with Barahona where he and another undercover detective began purchasing suspected cocaine from Barahona on numerous occasions in the County of Marin. Barahona began supplying one of the undercover detectives with larger quantities of cocaine, bringing another subject to the transaction, later identified as Erik Garcia. SIU detectives quickly learned Garcia was supplying the cocaine to Barahona to sell to the undercover detectives.
On 12/17/24, during a coordinated operation with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, SIU detectives detained Barahona and Garcia and executed search warrants at their residences in Sonoma and Petaluma. Pursuant to the search warrants, Detectives located over a quarter pound of suspected cocaine, over a half pound of suspected methamphetamine, two operational firearms, ammunition, and over $5,000 in U.S. currency. Some of the money located at Garcia’s residence was linked to the undercover buy operations conducted by SIU detectives. Additionally, Garcia is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.
Garcia and Barahona were booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of narcotics and weapons related offences.
