In the little sanctuary city of Novato, CA, nestled deep in the sanctuary county of Marin, police tell people living in the country illegally that they should have no fear of the police. This is the latest press release from the town’s police force on the issue:
We Hear You, Novato!
In response to recent Immigration concerns, we are committed to collaborating with our community to answer any questions you may have. First of all, the Novato Police Department does not detain people solely based on their immigration status. Our goal is to maintain openness, be transparent, and keep the Novato community well-informed.

Stay safe Novato!
You gotta love the sign-off “Stay safe, Novato!” after the press release explains how an illegal alien in Novato, possibly wanted for rape and murder in his own country, needs to have no fear if he’s pulled over for, say, DUI. Police in Novato will only pay attention to his traffic arrest and go to sleep on the rest.
That’s the idea, isn’t it?
First, in my experience, the Novato police are pretty damn good at what they do. They mean it when they say, “Stay safe, Novato.” For the department to broadcast to the world that criminal illegal aliens have nothing to fear should they encounter one of Novato’s finest has gotta rub the rank-and-file the wrong way.
If you’re pulled over on suspicion of DUI and you’re wanted somewhere else, you better darn well be worried because anyone arrested in Novato will be vetted before being released. If that shows criminal warrants — in the U.S. or Guatemala, you will be dealt with accordingly.
Has that changed? Gawd, I hope not. But, please let me know if I’m going wrong on this in any way.
