A safety tip story from the Novato Police Department:
Last weekend, an E-bike was reported stolen from an open garage on Kenwood Ct. while the homeowners were inside their residence. Thanks to the e-bike’s tracking capabilities, Novato Police Officers were able to locate the bike at an RV parked on a neighboring street. The e-bike was found wrapped in tin foil as a failed attempt to block its tracking signal.
Utilizing the e-bike’s mobile app, officers activated the tracking alert sound, which led them directly to the stolen property. The recovered e-bike was promptly returned to the rightful owners.
We ask community members on Kenwood Ct. and Chase St. to check their camera footage from Saturday (3/1) for any suspicious activity involving an e-bike. Please call 415-897-4361 with any information related to this case and reference case #NP 25-556.
Another e-bike was reported as stolen from the Shell gas station on South Novato Blvd near Rowland Way around the same time officers recovered the first e-bike.
These incidents highlight the importance of securing high-value items with safety locks when not in use and potentially adding GPS tracking to the bike. Utilizing mobile tracking apps and saving serial numbers along with photographs of valuable possessions can greatly aid officers in recovery efforts.
We would like to thank the reporting parties for quickly notifying us of these incidents. We can help reduce crime in our community together. Report stolen property online at novato.org/reportacrime or call 415-897-4361.
Stay safe Novato!
