To ensure the Marin County Fair is welcoming and accessible to all, Fair staff with the support of the Marin County Board of Supervisors established an ad hoc accessibility advisory committee in 2024 to ensure disability access at the County’s largest event. The mission of the committee is “to make the Marin County Fair welcoming and accessible to all, and to foster disability inclusion and a sense of belonging.” A three-year plan was developed as a step towards fulfilling the mission.
Last year, the Fair offered an ADA Lounge in the Exhibit Hall building—a quiet space for fairgoers with disabilities and their families to take a break, get a snack or water, check out noise-cancelling headphones, and get advice on other accessibility offerings by specially trained volunteers. The ADA Lounge was furnished by San Rafael non-profit organization Make it Home Bay Area with comfortable sofas and chairs, carpet, tables and more.
For the 2025 Marin County Fair, will offer an expanded ADA Accessibility Lounge located in the Redwood Foyer of the Veterans’ Memorial Auditorium open all five days of the Fair.
Based on the committee’s recommendations, the Fair has partnered with Butler Amusements (the Fair’s Carnival operator) to find ways to make the carnival rides more accessible to those with disabilities. For guests who are seeking a sensory friendly experience in the carnival, the Fair will offer an opportunity on the morning of July 3 for guests to enjoy select rides with no amplified sounds or strobing lights. Guests with disabilities who wish to participate in the sensory-friendly experience or request a carnival escort for assistance can call 415-473-5062 for details and to schedule their visit.
The Fair is also pleased to offer a fully accessible, universally designed, mobile restroom by Momentum Refresh during all five days at the Fair. By providing a safe and comfortable personal care space for those with mobility limitations and their caregivers, Momentum Refresh reduces barriers and promotes inclusivity, equity and understanding. In addition to a toilet, the vehicle is equipped with a height-adjustable universal changing table, an overhead ceiling hoist to facilitate easier transfer from wheelchair to changing table or toilet, a height-adjustable sink, enough room for an individual and caregiver, and a team of trained professionals available to inform guests about the amenities and to maintain and clean the space.
