MARIN COUNY FIRE DEPARTMENT
At approximately 2 a.m., dispatch received reports of a vegetation fire near Vineyard and Meadow Lane in Novato. A wildland response was activated, deploying key resources including four County Type-3 engines, a dozer, and support from our partners at Novato Fire Protection District, Marin County Sheriff’s Office and Novato Police Department
Upon arrival, Marin County Fire units found a small vegetation fire burning along the hillside. No structures were threatened. By 2:25 a.m., crews had successfully stopped forward progress, containing the fire at approximately 3 acres.
As part of standard procedure, the cause of the fire was investigated and determined to be fireworks.
Fortunately, this incident was contained before it became a larger threat, but it serves as a critical reminder: Fireworks are illegal in Marin County. Possession or use is a misdemeanor and may result in up to a $1,000 fine and/or six months in jail.
Fireworks pose a serious risk to our community. Each year, they cause preventable injuries, structure fires, and wildfires. Marin’s dry summer conditions create a high-risk environment for wildfire. Please celebrate safely and responsibly by attending a professional fireworks show.
