Marin City residents, youth, small business owners, faith leaders, and seniors will engage in dialogue with Marin County officials at the Forever Marin City Futures Forum—a public gathering and intergenerational dialogue to help the community chart a new course for its future.
The event, hosted by Marin City Climate Resilience (MCCR) in partnership with Be Present Consulting, will take place between 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM on Thursday, July 17. Participants will engage in interactive sessions that elevate lived experiences, present research findings, and co-create recommendations focused on improving equity, infrastructure, economic opportunity, and community ownership.
“We’re proud to support this community-led initiative to help shape real, lasting change,” said Marin County Executive Derek Johnson. “Solutions must be long-term, driven by data, and designed with the community—not for it.
Marin City was founded during World War II as a shipyard community that drew Black and African-American workers seeking well-paying jobs and an escape from segregation in the South.
After the war, many remained, and the enclave became a majority Black and African-American community, despite decades of discriminatory policies like zoning, redlining, racial inequity and systemic disinvestment.
