Mr. Grump: A Mill Valley man living out the character of a proverbial Grumpy Old Man told police he is tired of picking up balls that come into his yard when the kids are playing ball next door. Wants the cops to make his neighbors be “more aware of how disruptive this is.” Also, get off my lawn!
Coffee Now Rice: A woman on Shelley Drive finally had enough and called the police. She said someone threw coffee on her parked vehicle before and now someone threw rice on her car. She suspects an unfriendly neighbor. Police are checking it out.
Reckless Driver: A black Ford truck was seen weaving through lanes in Mill Valley and stopping at intersections 10-feet into the intersection. The idiot driver was described as a 40-ish man with a shaved head.
Bad Roommate: Police are trying to sort out a complaint by one roommate against another. The complaining roommate said the other kicked in his door and took a $100 bottle of vodka. Not cool. Charges will be filed.
InstaCart Shopper: A person said to be an Instacart shopper was reportedly calling employees names and taking pictures of the employees. Police rolled and escorted the man off the property. He was told to shop at a store in Strawberry.
Racial Name Calling: A Hispanic man tried to enter a place of businesses at 7:59 a.m. A woman employee, who is black, said he had to wait until 8 a.m. The man then yelled at her using the “B” word, her gender and and her skin color. Police report to follow.
Crime Buster: A person on Magee Avenue who was about to use a gas-powered leaf blower was advised to not start it up or they would be cited.
Novato
Scammer: A scammer telephoned two different community members last weekend and claimed to be a Novato Police Department Lieutenant. The scammer demanded they pay to stop a warrant for their arrest. Instead of falling victim to this scam, community members notified Novato PD. Scammers can “spoof” the police department’s telephone number. “Spoofing” technology allows a scammer to have a local phone number appear on a caller ID even if they are calling from a different state or country. It makes you think you are connected to a legitimate government agency. NEVER act on a phone call that tells you that you will be arrested and demands money to keep that from happening. No public agency – including law enforcement – would ask you over the phone to send money for any reason. Scammers play on fear and want to pressure victims to act immediately. Never send anything of value such as cash, checks, gift cards, etc. and never give any of your personal information to an individual who is pressuring you to act quickly for any reason. Thank you to our quick thinking community members for reporting this scam.
Carjacking: On Saturday, Aug. 22, at 7:02 p.m., Novato police officers responded to a collision resulting in a vehicle fire at the Shell Gas Stations located at 401 Enfrente Road. Officers learned that the driver of a black pickup struck a white SUV while traveling south on US Highway 101. The occupants of the white SUV escaped as the vehicle caught fire. The SUV occupants were transported to a local hospital for treatment for minor to moderate injuries. The driver of the black truck fled the scene. Moments after the collision with the SUV, and about 100 yards away and in front of a local restaurant, the suspect pointed a black handgun at, and robbed, a victim of his phone and car keys. The suspect then stole the victim’s vehicle and fled the scene. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Montura Way in Novato. Law enforcement officers, including the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Drone team, San Rafael/Novato SWAT Team, San Rafael and Novato Canine teams, and California Highway Patrol officers and air support searched through the night and exhausted all efforts to find the suspect. During this investigation, the suspect was identified as Aaron McKendrick, a 37 year old Sonoma County resident. Earlier in the day, McKendrick allegedly committed a robbery in the Camp Meeker area of Sonoma County which involved the theft of a vehicle. Later the same day, McKendrick allegedly carjacked a victim in Petaluma for the black Chevy truck that was involved in the Novato collision.At 7:45 a.m., Sunday (Aug. 23) Novato PD received a call from an observant resident reporting a man who matched McKendrick’s description in the area of Vineyard Road and Vivian Court. NPD Officers responded to the area and positively identified the subject as McKendrick. He was safely taken into custody and a stolen loaded firearm was found in his possession.

‘Extremely Unreasonable’: A homeowner on Bulkley Avenue caused his neighbor much stress when he had a tree shredder up against her property wall and damaging her plants. She didn’t feel comfortable talking to her neighbor, so she called the police. She said the shredder people were gone now but left behind a big mess. Sausalito’s finest rolled to the scene of the “crime” and found no debris or damage. Cop report says the woman caller was “extremely unreasonable” and she was not happy with the police’s conclusion.
Three Credit Cards: A woman in a local restaurant tried to pay her $30 bill with three different credit cards and three different names. The establishment confiscated the cards and called the police. She was cited and released for unlawful use of a credit card and released.
He’s Not Going Up: A homeless man was found sleeping in an elevator on Bridgeway. Cops checked it out and cited the man for possession of drugs and burglary tools.
Verbal Beef: A man called the police when he walked by an RV parked on Bridgeway. A man speaking Chinese yelled at the walker and threatened his life. Police rolled and settled the dispute.
Vandalism: Someone nailed a “Black Lives Don’t Matter Here” on a building on Coloma Street. Police are reviewing security footage for a clue as to the vandal.
Suspicious Guy: A man walking on Locust Street stopped in driveways along the way and, shall we say, marked his territory in the bushes. He was said to be carrying two big sticks.
Glovebox Theft: The owner’s manual and registration items was stolen from a white Audi Q3 on Crescent Avenue.
Bike Thief: A woman stole a mountain bike from a bike shop on Bridgewater. An employee caught her and held her until police arrived.
Phone Blocked: A citizen called police because he discovered that his phone number is blocked on his child’s phone. He believes his mother had a hand in it. He told police it was a violation of his child custody agreement.
Not Sober: A homeless man walked along Bonita Street peering into garages and “talking to young girls.” The girls told the man to scram. “The male did not appear to be sober,” the police report said. Police stopped the man and gave him a good talking to about his behavior.
