Mourning Ruth Bader Ginsburg

September 21, 2020 by Marin Leave a Comment

Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Eighteen Novatoans held a vigil last Sunday at the corner of Sherman and DeLong to honor the memory and legacy of Ruth Bader Ginsburg, the second woman appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court.  Ginsburg died on Friday.

“A year ago, we moved to Novato from San Francisco,” said Jenny Collins, who brought her children, Ruairi, 8 and Grace, 5 to the vigil.  “I’m so glad that there is a place to come where we can publicly express our grief and our views.”  Grace held a sign depicting Justice Ginsburg engaged in one of her famous workouts and wore a Colin Kaepernick jersey.

PeaceNovato is a grass-roots, non-partisan organization which has marched against needless war, gun violence and on behalf of social and environmental justice since its founding in 2003, when the U.S. invaded Iraq.  The Peace Crane Remembrance Project, for which the group is known, includes an origami crane with the name, rank and home town of every American soldier killed in the wars in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere in the Middle East.

For more information on the group, call PeaceNovato Chair Julie Manson at 415-883-8324, or email info@peacenovato.org
