Sausalito ‘ambassadors’ to regulate social distancing

May 15, 2020 by Marin Leave a Comment

The City of Sausalito’s ambassador program will begin operations on the weekend of May 16 in an effort to encourage mask wearing and social distancing in the downtown area.

The ambassador program is managed by City contractor Sausalito Bike Return, a locally owned and operated company. In a normal year, the ambassadors would be on duty from March until October to help direct tourists to the bicycle parking area and the ferry landing.

Two ambassadors will be on duty on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. when the program resumes on May 16. One ambassador will be stationed at Yee Tock Chee Park near the intersection of Bridgeway and Princess Street. The other will be in front of the Bank of America Building at 750 Bridgeway.

Ambassadors will be holding informational signs asking people to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. Although the ambassadors will not be actively making contact with people, they will be available to answer any questions. Depending on the success of the program, the hours, days, and number of ambassadors may be modified.

Weekend parking restrictions and other efforts to discourage non-resident visitors to downtown Sausalito remain in effect, including the closure of parking lots 1-4. Foot, vehicle, and motorcycle patrols of the Sausalito Police Department will continue as on past weekends.

Any questions about the ambassador program or about managing downtown visitors may be directed to Lt. Stacie Gregory at sgregory@sausalito.gov.
