Curbside pickup at retail stores will be allowed in Marin County beginning Monday, May 18, according to an updated shelter-in-place order released on Friday, May 15.
The addition of curbside retail to the types of businesses allowed to operate in Marin is the most significant change to the previous order, which went into effect on May 4.
Retailers that reopen under the new public health order are subject to the following limitations:
Curbside/outside pickup only; customers may not enter the store
Stores must have direct access to an immediately adjacent sidewalk, street, or alley area for pickup by customers using any mode of travel, without blocking pedestrian access or causing pedestrian or vehicle congestion
Retail stores in an enclosed indoor shopping center that do not have direct access to an adjacent sidewalk, street, or alley area are not permitted to reopen.
To mitigate the risk of transmission of the coronavirus, every retail store that reopens for curbside service must implement site-specific plans to protect the health and safety of employees and customers.
Under the updated public health order, manufacturers of goods sold at retail stores may also resume business, provided that they have no more than 50 personnel on site in a manufacturing facility at any time.
In addition to the updated stay-at-home order, Marin’s public health officer has released a new parks order that allows motorized access to parks and open spaces for outdoor exercise, which is considered an essential activity. Agencies and jurisdictions operating public outdoor recreation areas within Marin are now permitted to allow people to drive to and park at or near their facilities, with the exception of popular destinations like Point Reyes National Seashore, Golden Gate National Recreation Area, Mount Tamalpais State Park, all Marin Municipal Water District lands, and all beaches along the Pacific Ocean.
Local jurisdictions are encouraged to continue prohibiting motorized access to any park facility as a means to prevent crowds that cannot feasibly comply with social distancing requirements.
