A social media post that threatened right-wing violence at a black-owned business in Tiburon turned out to be a hoax perpetrated by two 13- and 14-year-old boys from Tiburon.
The business — Yema — was in the news earlier this fall when video surfaced of Tiburon police approaching Yema’s owner, Yema Khalif. He was in his store late at night and police asked him for proof that he was the owner. Yema accused the police of racial profiling him because he is black. The incident produced a resignation of one officer involved and a special town meeting that resulted in a pledge for reform.
It also spurred Black Lives Matter protests.
The kids who created the social media hoax said they were just trying to get more hits on their site. Marin District Attorney ,Lori Frugoli said no charges would be filed against the boys, who were not identified. She said it was not a hate crime, but two immature kids seeking attention.
