Attempted Murder: On February 24th 2021 around 8:41 p.m. dispatchers received multiple 911 calls reporting a stabbing in the area of Cole Drive in Marin City.

Deputies rolled with the first unit arriving in 120 seconds. Upon arrival, Deputies found a woman stabbed multiple times inside an apartment.

Immediate care was provided to the victim. She was transported to a local hospital where she is expected to survive.

Deputies contacted Demeshia Harris in a nearby apartment with blood on her body. A knife with blood on it was located nearby and collected as evidence. Further investigation determined Harris and the victim were involved in a fight earlier. Harris retrieved a knife and a second altercation occurred with the victim suffering multiple stab wounds inflicted by Harris. Harris kicked and resisted Deputies when she was placed under arrest. Harris was arrested for the following crimes: Attempted Murder, assault with a deadly weapon, obstruction with violence. Harris was booked into the Marin County Jail.

Drug Bust: On Thursday Feb. 18, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Specialized Investigative Unit (SIU), arrested Vincent Robert Butt, of Novato, for multiple narcotics violations. Butt had previously been arrested by the Marin County Major Crimes Task Force in October of 2019 for possession of methamphetamine with the intent to sell and possession of oxycodone. Butt was free on bail from the 2019 case.

The SIU continued to receive information about Butt’s continued narcotics sales in Novato after Butt bailed out from jail on his original charges.  The SIU, with the assistance of the DEA, began a new joint investigation on Butt based on the information provided to them. Investigators quickly learned Butt was still actively selling large quantities of methamphetamine within the county of Marin. The investigation came to a close when the SIU Investigators located Butt at the Black Point Boat Launch in Novato. A search of Butt’s rental vehicle revealed over six and a half ounces of methamphetamine, over 2 grams of heroin, items consistent with narcotics sales, and narcotic paraphernalia. Butt was placed under arrest for possession of methamphetamine for sales, transportation of methamphetamine, possession of heroin, possession of narcotic paraphernalia, and committing a felony while out on bail.  Butt was booked into the Marin County Jail. The joint investigation between the Sheriff’s Office SIU and the DEA continues as DEA is seeking possible future federal indictments against Butt.

Weenie Waving: On Saturday morning Feb. 13, officers were dispatched to the area of Grant Avenue and Fourth Street. Multiple callers reported a man, who was exposing his genitals to customers near a restaurant in the area. Shortly after, a caller reported a man, who was exposing himself at another restaurant near Grant Avenue and Machin Avenue. The information provided from the second location was a match to the first subject’s description.

Shortly after the initial call, officers arrived and were informed the suspect had just left the area in a vehicle prior to NPD arrival. Once officers interviewed the witnesses, a thorough description of the suspect and vehicle (including the license plate number) was obtained. An alert witness also provided a photo of the suspect to NPD.

Officers responded to the listed residence of the vehicle owner, where they contacted 56-year-old Evan Saunders. Saunders was a positive match to the description provided and the photo taken by the witness. While speaking with Saunders, NPD Dispatch received information that Saunders was a suspect in a previous indecent exposure case from another jurisdiction. Officers interviewed Saunders, who admitted he was recently at the locations described, but denied exposing himself, even though several victims and witnesses positively identified Saunders by photograph and in-person.

Saunders was subsequently arrested and booked at Marin County Jail for Indecent Exposure, 314 PC.
