Car thefts way up in Novato

For the second straight year, no murders occurred in Novato, according to the Novato Police Department’s annual report. 

The report was made to the Novato City Council last month. 

In other key statistics, there were nine reported rapes in 2020 (up three from 2019), 24 robberies (same as 2019), 205 aggravated assaults (+8), 53 commercial burglaries (-20), 27 residential burglaries (-29), and 134 vehicle theft (+56). 

The police department made 300 less arrests in 2020 and received 7,999 fewer calls for service in 2020. 

There was one traffic fatality in 2020 and only 12 instances in which police officers used force on citizens during the year.
