City opens parking lots for Memorial Day

May 22, 2020 by Marin Leave a Comment

City Press Release

Closing the public parking lots in the downtown area has been an effective way to reduce the number of weekend, non-resident visitors. However, the closure of the downtown lots has had the unintended consequence of creating congestion at metered spaces and making it difficult for residents to pick up to-go food items from local restaurants.

With Memorial Day weekend ahead of us, the City has made the decision to partially reopen downtown municipal lots. Parking lots 1 and 2 will be open for the holiday weekend, with lots 3 and 4 available to be opened at the discretion of the Sausalito Police Department.

Since it is impossible under current public health orders to prevent outside visitors from coming to Sausalito if they make that choice, the City’s efforts during the Memorial Day weekend will be on persuasion and mitigation. Ambassadors provided by a City contractor will be stationed at two locations downtown to encourage mask wearing and social distancing.

Summer parking rates will also go into effect on May 23. All hourly rates at downtown parking lots will increase by $1 per hour, as will hourly rates at metered spaces.

If are planning to pick up an order from a restaurant or retail establishment, please don’t double park or park in a red zone. In addition to green zones and regular parking spaces, yellow loading zones may be used for pick-ups.

Any questions about parking in downtown Sausalito may be directed to Lt. Stacie Gregory at sgregory@sausalito.gov.
