August 16, 2021 by Marin Leave a Comment

Fairfax

July 28 – Aug. 3, 2021

Bike Beef: A bicyclist cornered a woman at a coffee shop and engaged her loudly over her driving skills. No more caffeine for him. Police called. Service provided.

Cable Guy: A resident called police to tell them that he thought someone had snuck into his house and messed with his cable reception. He called back later to say he may have been overly suspicious and jumped to a less likely conclusion. The cable is working fine now.

Tree Down: Large branch fell and is partially blocking the roadway at Doc Edgar Park. Service provided.

Noise Complaint:  Loud bass music was heard at Rudy Contratti Field on Bank Street. Service provided.

Sketchy Dude: A suspicious person was seen walking through a back yard on San Miguel Court. He had a backpack and a baseball bat. Gone when the police arrived.

Battery:  A girl called the police to report that her dad hit her friend. Report taken.

Disturbance: A citizen flagged down an officer to report a belligerent fellow in Fairfax Park. Service provided.

Sexual Assault: Police logged a report of “sexual assault other than rape.” It is said to have happened in Fairfax. No further details released.

Drunk Sleeper: A drunk slept at the bus stop at Olema Road and Sir Francis Drake Boulevard. Report taken.

Scattered: As a patrol car approached Mono Avenue a gaggle of kids scattered into the dark alleyway. They were rounded up, however. They said they fled because they were breaking curfew hours. Police gave them a verbal warning and were released into the custody of their parents.

Ms. Yeller: A woman stood in a local grocery store yelling racially charged comments. The store wanted her to leave because that kind of thing is very bad for business. Service provided.

San Rafael

Hit & Run: A pedestrian was killed after a hit & run accident on Merrydale Road. The man was found dead in the road about 4 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 8. Video of the event has been located, police say, and they are encouraging the driver to do the right thing and surrender to police.

Anyone with information is asked to call the San Rafael Police Department at 415-485-3000.

Arrest Warrant: Marin County Superior Court Judge Paul Haakenson issued an arrest warrant last week for Ivan Pech-Pinzon, 35, who is accused of hiding two suspects in what is believed to be a gangland shooting in San Rafael.

Novato

Operation Decoy: On Friday, July 30, Novato Police issued two citations, one to an individual for furnishing alcoholic beverages to a minor and another was cited for an open container. The decoys visited 5 businesses to purchase alcohol and were turned down when questioned about their age or when their ID was checked at two locations.

The Novato Police Department works with the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) and conduct programs involving minor decoys who enter businesses with an underage ID and try to purchase alcohol. This program holds any adults accountable, who allow minors to purchase alcohol. ABC is a department of the Business, Consumer Services and Housing Agency and protects communities through education & prevention programs designed to increase compliance with California’s alcoholic beverage laws.

The program permits a minor to enter businesses and provide store clerks with an underage ID, under the direct supervision of a peace officer. If the clerk allows the minor to purchase alcohol, officers then issue a citation for furnishing alcohol to a minor. The penalty for furnishing alcohol to a minor is a minimum $1000 fine and 24 hours of community service.

The goals of the program are to reduce the availability of alcohol to minors, raise public awareness about the problem, and change the community norms regarding such behavior. Statistically, adolescent drivers are involved in a higher number of DUI collisions than adult drivers. According to the American Medical Association, underage drinking can increase chances of risky sexual behavior, teen pregnancy, juvenile delinquency, compromise health, and result in unintentional injury and death.

Mill Valley

The Winner: The Mill Valley Police Department thanks everyone who came out for this year’s National Night Out. The winner of the “guess the number of marbles in the jar” contest that night was Will, shown above with his prize — a Nintendo Switch.
