Delta variant silences MTC’s ‘The Sound Inside’

August 20, 2021 by Marin Leave a Comment

The seemingly endless rollercoaster ride for Mill Valley arts organizations continued this week as the delta variant surge has caused the Marin Theatre Company to halt its planned in-person opening of the West Coast premiere of Obie Award winner and Pulitzer Prize finalist Adam Rapp‘s new play, The Sound Inside.

The play will instead debut in May/June 2022 because “the health and safety of our audiences, performers, staff, and volunteers is a top priority for us,” MTC officials said in a statement.

Given concerns about gathering inside amidst the delta variant surge, MTC officials are instead going to hold off until November, when they’ll open with the world premiere of Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley, the final installment in Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon’s popular trilogy based on the characters of Jane Austen’s classic novel Pride and Prejudice. Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley will play November 18–December 19.
