San Marin
It’s official now. The San Marin Mustangs of Novato are flirting with season perfection. And, the Mustangs are now ranked in the Top 25. The powerful team kept its perfect record intact last Friday night (Oct. 8), defeating the Trojans of Terra Linda 53-7. The Mustangs are now 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in MCAL and move on to face the 0-5 Novato Hornets on Friday (Oct. 15). The Mustangs were ranked No. 23 in the SFChron’s Bay Area football teams. “It’s the first time San Marin has been ranked since 2013 when future ASU and Packers backup quarterback Manny Wilkins led the Mustangs,” the Chronicle wrote.
Marin Catholic
Coming off a bye week, the ever-powerful Marin Catholic High School varsity football team hosted the San Rafael Bulldogs and, well, would not let them out. The Bulldogs were held to a goose egg while MC poured on 55 points beginning with an 87-yard TD kickoff return to start the game. Marin Catholic travels to Redwood High School on Saturday (Oct. 16). The Wildcats are 5-1 on the season. The only loss for MC came against the powerful East Bay’s McClymonds. MC and McClymonds are ranked No. 14 and No. 13 respectively in the San Francisco Chronicle’s Top 25 list of Bay Area prep football teams.
Redwood
In the secular world, trees and falcons would coexist with nary a woe. But in the world of high school prep football, their mascots, and sportswriters tasked with recapping a 5-day-old game, let us just tell you that the Giants of Redwood High School were none too friendly to the Peregrine Falcons of Archie Williams High School. After the first quarter of the matchup at AWHS’s home turf, the 3-2 Giants trailed. A loss would be hard to overcome. But the Redwood Giants turned it on for the rest of the game on Saturday (Oct. 9) and came away with an easy win, elevating the varsity football team to a 4-2 record. They face ranked (No. 14) powerhouse Marin Catholic next week. The loss dropped AWHS to 4-2 on the season.
Archie Williams
The high flying Archie Williams High School Peregrine Falcons started the season off with a blistering 4-0 record. Then, on Oct. 1, they ran into the San Marin Mustangs, also 4-0. AWHS dropped that game and then moved on to host rivals Redwood High School on Saturday, Oct. 9. It looked good at first with the Falcons roosting on the top branch of the Giants with a first quarter lead. Then the Redwood High School varsity football team shook the Falcons off and posted a victory, dropping the Falcons to a season record of 4-2 and 0-2 in the Marin league. AWHS plays at Terra Linda at Terra Linda on Friday, Oct. 15.
Tamalpais
Tam High School varsity football team smoked the Hornets of Novato on Saturday (Oct. 9), 47-17. The win advanced the Red-tailed Hawks of Mill Valley to an overall record of 4-2 and a perfect 3-0 record in MCAL.) Tam hosts San Rafael on Saturday (Oct. 16).
Novato
The Hornets of Novato High School Varsity football fame swarmed all over the Tam High School Red-tailed Hawks to start the MCAL contest on Saturday (Oct. 9). Then, behind 10-zip, Tam turned it on to end the Hornets’ buzz and beat Novato 47-17. Novato is now 1-5 on the season and 0-3 in MCAL. The Hornets face their mighty cross-town rivals, the San Marin Mustangs on Friday (Oct. 15) at San Marin.
Terra Linda
The Trojans of Terra Linda faced the team that may be the class of MCAL (San Marin) on Friday (Oct. 8) and came up on the losing end, 53-7. The Trojans shouldn’t feel lonely in their loss. The Mustangs of San Marin are perfect on the season, now at 6-0 overall and 3-0 in MCAL. The 1-5 Trojans will raise their shields to a strong Archie Williams High School Peregrine Falcons team on Friday (Oct. 15).
San Rafael
Someone call the humane society. The San Rafael High School Bulldogs were abused by the Marin Catholic Wildcats last week, 55-0. Before fans could get the condiments on their hotdogs, MC had returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown. And the abuse continued. San Rafael coach Mark Lubamersky, ever the gentleman, tipped his cap to the powerful Wildcat team as his 3-3 Bulldogs lick their wounds and prepare to take on Tam High School on Saturday (Oct. 16).
Branson
The Bulls were again off last week, which, like we wrote last week, is probably a good thing for some school somewhere as the boys of Branson’s varsity 8-man football team have been killing their opponents this year. Branson takes on the Roseland University Prep Knights on Oct. 16 at RUP.
