The town that sheet mulches together …

November 9, 2021 by Marin Leave a Comment

Sheet mulch

Join City of Novato staff and community volunteers to complete a sheet mulching project on the median island on Redwood Boulevard. at the corner of De Long Avenue.

The plan is to meet at 9 a.m. Thursday (Nov. 11) on the island (opposite Woodside Center at 7290 Redwood Blvd.) and safety vests, gloves, tools, snacks, and drinks will be provided. All that is needed are your muscles and time (even if you can only join us for an hour).

For more information contact Gretchen Schubeck via email at gschubeck@novato.org or phone (415) 899-8950.

The event is being held on Veteran’s Day, and since there’s no school in Novato on that day, it’s a great way for Novato and San Marin High School students to rack up some community service hours! To participate, students will need to bring a Volunteer Services Agreement & Release form signed by a parent or guardian to the event.

Pre-registration is recommended.

Sheet mulching means layers of cardboard and then a thick layer of mulch to suppress weeds without any chemicals. Sheet mulching also helps retain water in the landscape and build healthy soil.
