Mill Valley police looking for 5 people in fraud case

December 27, 2021 by Marin 2 Comments

In early September of 2021, five people completed a series of fraudulent transactions at Sofia Jewelry (80 Throckmorton Avenue, Mill Valley) that totaled more than $75,000.

It was later determined that these transactions were completed using stolen credit card information, and as a result, the transactions were later reversed.

This information was reported to the Mill Valley Police Department in October of 2021, at which time officers began to investigate the fraudulent transactions. Once video surveillance was provided to detectives, the  investigations division shared photos of the five involved individuals with our law enforcement partners throughout the Bay Area. Within hours, a detective from a neighboring police department reported to our investigations division that one of the people captured on video surveillance was Kamani Jamad Holmes, age 27, out of Sacramento, California.

Further investigation linked Holmes to at least one of the fraudulent purchases, which totaled more than $13,000. On Wednesday, Nov. 10, Mill Valley officers executed a search warrant at Holmes’ residence, allowing them to gather further evidence in this case. Holmes was later arrested and booked into the Alameda County Jail on charges from a neighboring jurisdiction. This case was forwarded to the Marin County District Attorney’s office, and as a result, Holmes has been charged with Commercial Burglary, Grand Theft, Identity Theft, and Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card

Mill Valley Police detectives continue to investigate this crime, and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the other individuals (shown with this Marinscope story)  involved in these thefts. Due to our ongoing investigation, no further information related to this case will be released at this time.

If you have information that can assist in the investigation, contact Detective Sergeant Shaun McCracken at smccracken@cityofmillvalley.org or by telephone at 415-389-4228. Guard your credit cards with an RF protection wallet, they don’t need the possession of the physical card just using an RF (Radio Frequency reader device sends the information to them faster than the blink of an eye).. Cover & keep secret your pin (Personal Identification Number). When using it in the open like supermarkets gas stations coffee shops.
