Frederick Commentary: Total mask confusion in one picture

January 17, 2022 by Marin 2 Comments

A maskless Dr. Fauci in the foreground and a double-masked Walensky in the background.

How schizophrenic are we about the need to wear masks? One picture last week on CSPAN illustrates.

Testifying before the Senate Health Committee, Dr. Anthony Fauci spoke to legislators without a mask. Dr. Rochelle Walensky followed him wearing a doubled-up N-95 mask.

Remember, this was Jan. 11 – the height of the Omicron surge.

So which is it? Should we model the maskless White House chief medical advisor (Fauci), or the double-masked Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director (Walensky).

How should I know? But, I am now going to use my journalistic super power for grasping the obvious and say:

No wonder we’re confused about masks.

NO CALL BACK – REALLY?

Marin County says it doesn’t have enough cash to pay all seeking federal rent assistance promised in the American Rescue Plan Act. That’ll get straightened out eventually. But a sidebar to this story comes from Supervisor Stephanie Moulton-Peters who says she’s getting calls from people seeking rent assistance who tell her they can’t get a call back from Marin County.

That’s an ugly accusation.

If it’s true, let’s get it fixed right now.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

“We’re not closing schools, even if we had one school with 20 teachers out. Our No. 1 priority is to keep schools open. We need kids to be in class. Kids learn better in class, and having the kids at home puts an undue burden on parents – Jim Hogeboom, superintendent of the San Rafael City Schools District.

Historic photo of Kimberly Guilfoyle when she batted from the left side of the political plate with Gavin Newsom. She’s with Trump Jr. now.

BAY AREA’S NO. 1 SWITCH HITTER

Former first lady of San Francisco, Kimberly Guilfoyle, said “yes” to marriage in a secret proposal from former President Donald Trump’s son, Don Jr. This makes her the most high profile switch hitter in the history of Bay Area political sports. Gavin Newsom to Trump Jr. Impressive.

SALMON AND RATS

Two weeks ago we told you about how recent heavy rains are bringing salmon to creeks in Marin that have not seen them in years. Now comes a story about rats.  The Independent Journal reports rats so infested an apartment at Golden Gate Village that the Marin Housing Authority had to move the tenant to other Section 8 housing due to the unbearable stench of dead rats packed in the walls.

Stinking dead rats in the walls? That takes a while, doesn’t it?

Something doesn’t quite add up here.

ONE MORE THING

– If your car could travel at the speed of light, would your headlights work?

– The colder the x-ray table, the more of your body is required to be on it.

– If at first you don’t succeed, skydiving is not for you.

Thanks for reading, everybody. Until next week, dear readers, avoid soreheads, laugh a little and always question authority.

He’s not maskless he literally has the mask in his hands. He took it off to speak into the microphone.

And she spoke wearing a double-N-95 mask. Which is proper?
