Grief and end-of-life gatherings

January 31, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

Over three evenings in March people may gather with like-minded people to explore components of grief and loss, facilitated by two end of life guides.

Recent times have presented many occasions to grieve. Death, illness, loss of treasured social rituals, changes in how we work and learn, the end of a job or relationship. We grieve because we care, and each grief, while unique to the person experiencing it, is an opportunity to heal, to gain wisdom, and eventually to move toward gratitude.

Over this three-part series we will gather and use the power of human connection, conversation, contemplation, meditation and breathwork to transform our losses into a gift for our hearts. Join in safe, open conversations guided by end-of-life doulas Anthea and Karen.

You are welcome to attend one, two, or all three of the following:

– March 3 ~ Grief of Mind & Body: Physical, emotional, and mental aspects of grieving

Identifying and addressing the PHYSICAL, embodied experience of grief. Acknowledging the reality of loss and its effects on us.

Providing an EMOTIONAL outlet for the spectrum of emotions that can overwhelm us. Embracing the pain of the loss and learning to reconcile ourselves to it as we grow.

Developing awareness and perspective on the MENTAL aspects of grief. Recognizing when we are stuck; becoming unstuck. Embracing the past so we can open ourselves to new experiences.

March 10 ~ Grief of Heart & Soul: Spiritual, social, and environmental aspects of grieving

Using prayer or meditation to address SPIRITUAL questions, loss of faith, need for healing, and search for meaning. Seeking to understand what happened and why.

Making SOCIAL connections with others experiencing grief, so we can develop perspective. Developing new self-identities as we adjust to new realities following a loss.

Exploring the crises of our planet and how we respond to them in these unique times of collective ENVIRONMENTAL and global grief.

March 24 ~ Grief Over Dinner. Gather together for this community event, an evening of facilitated conversation over a simple meal as we explore grief and gratitude around the dinner table.

Tickets are $35 for each event or $90 for all three events. We also accept donations if the event is cost prohibitive (no need to explain why). We truly want you to join us!

As these events will be held indoors, we ask all participants to provide proof of vaccination and / or a negative covid test result taken within 3 days of the event.

Anthea Grimason is an end-of-life doula, yoga teacher and Reiki master, originally from Ireland, now residing happily in Mill Valley.

Karen Murray is an end-of-life doula, support group facilitator, singer with Marin Threshold Choir, Reiki practitioner and caregiver residing in Mill Valley.

Anthea and Karen were both trained by INELDA, International End of Life Doula Association.

What is an end-of-life doula?

An end-of-life doula guides a person who is transitioning to death and their loved ones through the dying process. The doula might get involved soon after a terminal diagnosis, later on when the person declines more, at the point where the person’s body is beginning its final breakdown, or even after a death to help loved ones start their time of grieving. The doula will provide emotional, spiritual, and physical support to everyone involved. Above all, the doula listens deeply to the concerns, fears, hopes, and life stories of the dying person and their loved ones to bring them peace at the end of life.
