Marin 911: Central Police respond to 600-plus calls

Above K9 Rookie and his police officer partner encourage people to obey leash laws while visiting local parks. In Novato, dogs must always be on leash while within a City Park. For the off-leash experience, dog owners are encouraged to visit Dogbone Meadow, the town’s local dog park, which is located on Novato Blvd at Copper Hill Way.
On Feb. 7, one of Mill Valley’s finest made a bicycle stop on Camino Alto. The bicyclist had possession of a rental E Bike he allegedly took from San Francisco without paying for the rental service. In addition, police said the bicyclist had possession of a meth pipe and an open container of alcohol. The bicyclist was arrested.

Central Police

Jan. 26 – Feb. 1, 2022

Summary: During this one-week time period, we had 600 calls for service. This included 6 calls related to hit and run accidents, 3 minor injury accidents, 0 major injury accidents and 3 property damage only accidents. There was 1 residential burglary, 2 commercial burglaries and 1 auto burglary. There was 1 call related to DUI and 0 DUI arrests.

Theft: A caller reported a theft from his workplace on Meadowsweet Drive in Corte Madera. An Officer took a burglary report.

Battery: A caller reported a dispute on Locust Avenue in Larkspur. A man, with no permanent address, was arrested for battery on a person, elder abuse, battery on Police Officer, resisting arrest, obstructing a Public Officer and obstruct resist executive Officer. He was transported and booked into Marin County Jail.

Smash-n-Grab: A caller reported returning to his vehicle parked on Tamal Vista Boulevard in Corte Madera to find his vehicle had been broken into and items were missing. An Officer took an auto burglary report.

No Device: Pursuant to a traffic stop on East Sir Francis Drake Boulevard in Larkspur, a Richmond resident was cited and released for driving on a suspended license for DUI and driving a vehicle without interlock device.

Stolen Vehicle: A resident on Lakeside Drive in Corte Madera reported his vehicle missing. An Officer took a stolen vehicle report.

Domestic Violence: A caller reported hearing a disturbance on Corte Lenosa in Greenbrae. A San Francisco resident was arrested for domestic violence, battery with serious bodily injury, criminal threats, unauthorized destruction of property and destroy/remove wireless phone. He was transported and booked into Marin County Jail.

Bike Theft: A caller reported her bicycle had been taken while parked on San Rafael Avenue in San Anselmo. An Officer took a grand theft report.

Bike Theft: A caller reported his bicycle had been taken from his vehicle while parked at Corte Madera Town Center in Corte Madera. An Officer took a grand theft report.

Sketchy: A caller reported a suspicious subject on Larkspur Landing Circle in Larkspur. A San Francisco resident was arrested on a $5,000 warrant held by San Francisco County Sheriff Office. He was transported and booked into Marin County Jail.

Catalytic Converter: A caller reported the catalytic converter had been taken from his vehicle while parked on Drakes Landing Road in Greenbrae. An Officer took a grand theft report.

San Rafael

New Officer: Officer Masten, above, completed his intensive Field Training Program and now ready to patrol the streets of San Rafael as a solo officer.  The department encouraged citizens to wave hello when you see him on the street.

Mill Valley

Jan. 27 – Feb. 3, 2022

Wedding Crasher: Vendors setting up for an upcoming wedding at the amphitheater on Throckmorton encountered a homeless woman causing a ruckus by swearing at vendors and refusing to leave them to their work. Police arrived and the woman left the scene.

Not Golfers: A dozen teens were reported having a party on Buena Vista Avenue and vandalizing the golf course. Police rolled. The kids skedaddled on e-bikes and police retrieved a flag that was taken from the course. 

Scary Man: A woman on Camino Alto told police she was approached by a man on Jan. 29 in a threatening manner. The man asked for money and told the woman that “I’ll start a war with you and I’ll win it.” He then asked the woman out to lunch. She told police she thinks he is homeless but hangs out in the area.

Screamer: A 60-ish man with a long bears and wearing a trench coat yelled mindless things near high school children on Miller Avenue. He scared them, according to the report. Police responded and talked to the man, who is known to them. This is his “normal behavior.” No merit to a crime.

Vandalism: Police responded to a report of vandalism on Shelter Bay Avenue on Jan. 27. Details were blacked out on the Cop Log. 

Smash-n-Grab: On Jan. 27 someone smashed the windo of a vehicle and took a purse inside. It happened on the Redwood Highway frontage road. 

Disturbance: A big brouhaha occurred on Jan. 27 at Lovell Avenue involving a woman in a red Jeep with a teen passenger pointing a laser gun at a pedestrian who said he was a lawyer. Police sifted through the crazy encounter and determined no crime was committed.

Yeller: A woman along in the bus stop on Throckmorton Avenue was heard wildly yelling bad words to no one in particular. Appeared one bubble off center. 

Drunk: A man in “raggity” clothes was drunk as a skunk on Locust Avenue. Police engaged and found him a bed for the night at the Helen Vine facility.

Catalytic Converter: A car on Redwood Highway Frontage road had its catalytic converter stolen on Jan. 31. 

Recovered Car: Police recovered a stolen car on Jan. 31. Details were blacked out on the Cop Log. 

Public Urination: A man peed on a public statue on Miller Avenue and appeared to be sleeping rough. Police interacted with the man and trying to find him help. 

Problem Couple: A man and woman made asses of themselves at a business on Throckmorton Avenue. The woman was “out of control” and claimed her man partner was with the CIA. She calmed down after police arrived.

Sausalito

Feb. 3 – 9, 2022

Cranky Woman: People in the 3030 Bridgeway area reported being harassed by a skinny woman with dark hair wearing a navy blue sweatshirt. She shows up about 8 a.m. each day and sticks around all day being a royal pest. Police talked to her and asked her to behave.

Cranky Man: People complained about a man wandering Bridgeway screaming at people like a mad man. Police caught up to him and talked to him. He expressed displeasure with police, which is not a crime. 

Army Jacket: A man wearing an army jacket stood on Caledonia yelling bad words and threatening that something really bad was going to happen at 9 a.m. the next day. (Nothing happened, BTW.)

Nonsense Man: A man was stopped and talked to after he entered the Tent City homeless encampment in Marinship Park. He was reported urinating in front of a business and yelling nonsense statements about shooting people. Authorities watched him and did not detect a weapon. 

Tent City Life: A heavy woman wearing all black and Ugg boots appeared to be drunk as a skunk and being aggressive with Tent City residents. Authorities watched her but felt they had not grounds for removing her from Tent City. 

Suspicious: A person parked in front of an ATM on Bridgeway and idled, causing patrons to be wary. Police rolled, but the car was gone.

Tent City Life: Police received a call from Tent City homeless encampment that said: When a drunk as (expletive deleted) even qualifies to stab me in the neck … get the (expletive deleted) out of her. I ain’t gonna fight. Why Not? I don’t want to fight his ass.” Authorities in Tent City were alerted. 

Tent City Life: A resident of Tent City reported that another resident threatened to pour alcohol on her tent. She also said the homeless encampment houses “killers and murderers.” 

Tent City Life: A person in the Marinship Park homeless encampment was arrested for vandalism and taken to jail. 

Dirty Old Man: A man in his 60s walking two small dogs uttered some “sexually explicit phrases” to a woman passing by. Police talked to the man and told him to stop it.

Theft: A man told police that coins and jewelry were missing from his home and he suspects his niece who lived with him two and half years ago may be the culprit. 

Tent City Life: A woman told police that the homeless encampment at Marinship Park is unsafe and filled with bad people. She said “the whole camp is after her.”
