Commentary: Four years for killing a woman? What a travesty

April 15, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

(Editor’s note: This is part of a future commentary column by Sherman R. Frederick entitled “Properly Subversive.” Stay tuned to MarinLocalNews for the full future column and past columns.)

FOUR YEARS?

Carolyn Marie Allen, 72, of San Anselmo was out walking her dogs when James Carleton Boswell, 32, of Sleepy Hollow plowed into her with his car and killed her. He was drunker than a skunk. And, when he killed Mrs. Allen, he was out free after a prior DUI conviction.

Marin authorities offered Boswell a plea deal. Instead of facing murder charges, he was given the privilege of pleading guilty to gross vehicular manslaughter, which he happily did.

He’ll be out of jail in four years.

This is a freakin’ miscarriage of justice. Four years for taking the life of another under those circumstances? Not nearly enough. And let me tell you the future: Boswell will get out of jail before next year’s incoming freshmen graduate from Redwood High School. He’ll get smashed again. He’ll kill someone else. Count on it.
