Novato turned 62 this year, same as Kenneth Branagh, Justice Elena Kagan, Julianne Moore, U2’s Bono, and Mike Lookinland (aka Bobby Brady). Those itching to break out of the pandemic doldrums and show civic pride can help the city celebrate at the Novato City Birthday Party, a gala celebration on Friday, June 3, at the spectacular new Bill & Adele Jonas Center at College of Marin’s Indian Valley Campus.
There are just a handful of tickets left. The $100 tickets will be available through May 22 or until the maximum capacity for the Jonas Center is reached, whichever comes first.
This event is a tribute to the past, present and future of Novato, its residents, community leaders, businesses, and organizations. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. when the doors open and complimentary champagne is served. The gala really gets rolling with “A Taste of Novato,” a delicious medley of hors d’ oeuvres, and a family-style sit-down dinner, wines, and craft beers from local businesses.
Later in the evening, Employees of the Year from the Novato Police Department and Novato Fire Protection District, and Businesses of the Year selected by the Novato Chamber will be recognized. The traditional highlight of the evening will be the announcement of the 2021 Citizen of the Year (shhh! It’s a secret until that night). After the presentations dancing will commence with DJ music as a backdrop, and guests will join in the cutting and tasting of the city’s official birthday cake.
In pre-pandemic times, the event regularly sold out. This year, the event previously known as Paint the Town Red, is making its debut at IVC’s new community center.
COVID-19 precautions will be taken to enhance safety for all. Everyone attending – guests, honorees, volunteers, vendors, food servers – will be asked to show proof of vaccination upon entry.
The City Birthday Party is presented by the all-volunteer nonprofit Paint the Town Red Committee. Generous sponsors making the event possible include Hennessy Cornerstone Large Growth Fund, the MacLeamy Family, Bank of Marin, Ultragenyx, BioMARIN, and Edward Jones Financial Advisor John Tornes.
