San Marin High School loses principal

June 20, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

Novatoan Jen Larson will take over for Mark Sims as principal of San Marin High School.

The Novato Unified School District announced that Dr. Mark Sims, San Marin High School principal, has accepted a position as a Director of Secondary Instruction at another school district.

Jennifer Larson, Assistant Superintendent of Education Services, will serve as the Interim Principal for the 2022-23 school year. A formal search for the principal position will be conducted in January 2023 when a better applicant pool is expected compared to summer 2022 and would start in time for the 2023-24 school year.

“Losing Dr. Sims is truly a loss for Novato Unified. We are fortunate Jen Larson will step into the role as Interim Principal at San Marin.  She has considerable experience in education, experience at NUSD and I know San Marin will be in good hands,” said Superintendent Jan La Torre-Derby.

Larson is a Novato native and graduated from San Marin.  She comes with a breadth and depth of knowledge of the district.  She has served as an administrative coordinator, director and, most recently, as the Assistant Superintendent of Education Services.  She also served as a middle school teacher at Sinaloa Middle School.

“My commitment is to equity and success for every student. The focus of my work both in the classroom and as an educational leader has been to elevate student voice, remove barriers for student success, and support the leadership capacity and professionalism of teachers,” commented Jennifer Larson.
