Pursuit: An Oakland man was arrested after a chase throughout Marin. CHP officers were clocking speeds of cars in the wee hours of Tuesday, Aug. 9. They measured a sedan going about 84 mph. They attempted to stop the car, but the car fled and made its way to the Canal area of San Rafael. The driver, CHP said, then ran away on foot. Rashad Jamalandre Sohan, 22, of Oakland was arrested and remains in jail.
DUI Crash: An alleged hit-and-run crash in Novato on Alameda Del Prado in Novato on Aug. 9 resulted in an arrest. A Mercedes sedan hit a Honda Civic. The driver of the Mercedes left the scene, but the car became disabled about a thousand feet away, CNP said. Arrested was Scott Elwyn Baker, 67, CNP reported. Baker has pending DUI charges from a previous accident.
Porch Pirate: A suspicious man in the Turney Street and Bonita Street area was seen walking up to homes. He took a carton from a porch on Bonita street. He was described as 40-ish with a black backpack, a black ball cap and a green hoodie. He was also yelling and lunging at cars driving by. Police found him and determined he did not steal anything but made him “clean up his mess.” This all took place on Aug. 8.
Car Sleeper: A citizen reported a person sleeping in a black Mercedes sedan on Bridgeway and asked police to move the person along. In a separate report, a citizen told police that the person living in the car stashed stolen goods inside. Police found a lot of stuff in the car. Fight: Two men were reported fighting over a suitcase on Harbor Drive. Police broke it up.
Parking Complaint: A woman who lives on Lincoln Drive called the cops to complain about a red sports car that frequently parks in front of her house. She asked the car’s driver once about why he parked in front of her house. He said he is a Sausalito resident and there is construction in front of his house, so he must find parking elsewhere and this was the most convenient and closest place for public parking. The woman told police that it was unfair for him to park in front of her place all the time.
Assault: A person at the city’s homeless camp in Marinship Park said another resident hit him in the head with a pipe. The assaulting man left the scene. Injury did not require further attention.
Pest: A man described as “bald on top” with long gray hair on the sides with a beard, stood in front of the city’s homeless camp in Marinship Park and shouted insults at people inside. Police showed up and moved the guy along.
Training: Preparing for the worst and being ready to respond, Novato Police Department officers and supervisors participated in scenario-based active shooter rapid response training last week. During training, officers rapidly moved toward the “active shooter” or person who was simulating killing or attempting to kill others in a populated area. Officers practiced engaging the suspect and ending the threat to others.
