Be aware: Rainbow fentanyl is here now

September 18, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

“Rainbow” fentanyl has hit the Bay Area. The deadly drug is colored to resemble candy. Berkeley police found a batch of Rainbow fentanyl during a routine traffic stop on Aug. 30.

DEA Administrator Anne Milgram said in a statement that “Rainbow fentanyl—fentanyl pills and powder that come in a variety of bright colors, shapes, and sizes—is a deliberate effort by drug traffickers to drive addiction amongst kids and young adults.”

She said the agency is working to “defeat the Mexican drug cartels that are responsible for the vast majority of the fentanyl that is being trafficked in the United States.”

The drug is 50 times stronger than heroin and 100 times stronger than morphine.

Keith Humphreys, an addiction expert at Stanford University, said it’s not surprising that rainbow fentanyl has surfaced in the Bay Area.
