Last Monday evening (Oct. 24) Novato Police received a call from school staff at Lynwood Elementary School reporting a group of teenagers causing a disturbance at Lynwood School after school hours.
There were no students on campus. Staff members were working into the evening.
Witnesses saw several kids flee the school in a vehicle leaving a critically injured 16-year-old boy, suffering from multiple stab wounds, in the parking lot. While Novato Fire Protection District medics provided treatment for the victim, officers checked the campus and located evidence that an assault with a deadly weapon occurred.
Investigators learned a second victim, a 17-year-old boy, was also assaulted by the group of teens. That victim suffered minor injuries. He was released to his parents.
The critically injured victim was transported to a local trauma center for medical treatment and remains in critical condition.
Novato Police Investigation Section assumed the investigation. Novato Unified School District staff are actively coordinating with NPD on this investigation to ensure the safety of all students.
Names of the victims were not released.
