Use of military-style weapons ok’d in Marin County

October 31, 2022 by Marin Leave a Comment

Marin County supervisors approved of the Marin Sheriff’s Department acquiring and using military style weapons.

A new state law requires the county to approve military weapons.

A smattering of activists – mostly from the Mill Valley Force for Racial Equity and Empowerment – testified against the use of military weapons by Marin law enforcement.

One woman from Mill Valley told the supervisors that she once had a medical emergency and after calling 911 found her “living room filled with big, strong men wearing big boots with guns strapped to their hips.” She said she couldn’t imagine how intimidating that would be if “sheriff’s deputies showed up with military weapons.”

The vote to approve was unanimous.
