A teen party on Ashford Avenue spilled out into the streets of Mill Valley on the night of Nov. 5, police said in a press release.
As many as 200 kids were reported drinking booze and throwing bottles. When police arrived, hey found at least 100 kids in the area, mostly in the CVS parking lot off of E. Blithedale Avenue. As officers attempted to disperse the teens, the partygoers turned on police and threw cans and bottles at the officers.
A deputy with the Marin County Sheriff’s Department was struck in the head by a full can of alcohol and suffered minor injuries. Mill Valley Police called in additional officers to quell the disturbance. They told CVS to close early, which the store did.
The press release said that “Officers attempted to de-escalate the incident to allow the group to disperse. While dispersing, one vehicle drove to the area of Bay Front Park and began reckless maneuvers with the vehicle. Mill Valley Officers stopped the vehicle and identified a juvenile driver who was issued a citation and parents were contacted.”
Police also cited one teenager for a Social Host Ordinance violation for initially facilitating the gathering that brought the crowd to the area, and released that person to their parents.
Mill Valley Police said they are “actively reviewing all recorded footage from the incident and will be pursuing additional charges for those who committed crimes. License plates of vehicles that were involved in the crowd have been collected and Mill Valley Police will be actively reaching out to the owner’s of those vehicles.”
