Starting Jan. 1, the minimum wage within Novato city limits will increase based on business size to: $16.32 per hour for very large businesses with 100 or more employees; $16.07 per hour for large businesses with 26-99 employees; and $15.53 per hour for small businesses with 1-25 employees.
The Novato minimum wage applies to each employee who performs more than two hours of work in a particular week within city limits.
In Oct. 2019, the Novato City Council adopted a local minimum wage ordinance which set a phased approach that allowed all employees in Novato to reach a $15 minimum wage one year earlier than what the State of California law requires. Once the minimum wage reaches $15 per hour, the minimum wage will be adjusted annually, regardless of the number of employees each employer employs, based on the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers (CPI-W) for the San Francisco-Oakland-Hayward Consolidated Metropolitan Statistical Area or its successor index which is published by the Department of Labor, or 3.5% whichever is less.
