Marin 911: Large black ‘spider’ sighting

he San Rafael Police Department recently assisted Voces del Canal  with their Holiday Fair for our neighbors in the Canal district of San Rafael.  Children were able to choose the perfect gift thanks to donations from a generous Marin public. 

MILL VALLEY

Spider Alert: A handicapped woman freaked out when a large black spider appeared in her bathroom. She could not reach her daughter or her caregiver. So, she called the police. Police rolled to the spider scene and found the old fashioned technique of S.W.A.T was not needed. It was “just a hairball on the floor.” Police removed it for the grateful woman. 

Running Car: How long can a car run while parked. Well residents on Kipling Drive reported a green hybrid car was parked for three days while running. Police notified the owner who said she didn’t realize the car was still running when she left the car. 

Mail Theft: On Dec. 19 it was reported that mailboxes were opened on Miller Avenue and mail was taken. 

Suspicious: A citizen reported that a man on Dec. 19 was “ripping off branches from Miller Grove” and building something. He’s also walking about to and fro, suspiciously. Police rolled to find a man clearing fallen limbs that were obstructing the creek. No crime. No suspicious behavior.

Hit & Run: A parked car on Molino Avenue was reported hit. The driver did not stop. 

Loud Banging: A woman on Sycamore Avenue reported loud banging at her door and feared someone was trying to break in. Police searched the area and secured the house. It is believed it was kids pranking the old woman.

Vagrant: A person was found sleeping on the stoop of a business on Locust Avenue. Moved along. 

Cold: A citizen called police about a homeless woman carrying a baby carriage on Miller Avenue. Was concerned about the cold weather. Police, who are familiar with the homeless woman,  advised the woman of her options. 

Lock Help: Police helped a woman get back into her house when an exterior door suddenly locked itself. 

Speeder: A reckless driver sped down Miller Avenue to drop someone off at school. Car info reported to police and CNP. 

Ring Alert: A resident of Bigelow Avenue got a notification via his Ring camera of movement at his house. He told police no one was home. Police checked the house and the area. May have been caused by nearby construction.

Bike Stolen: An electric bike was reported stolen on Camino Alto on Dec. 17. 

Stolen Car: A car was reported stolen on Dec. 18 from Montford Avenue. Police in the surrounding area are on the lookout. 

Thrown Ball: Kids on electric bikes threw a ball at a house on Nelson Avenue. Kids were long gone when the police arrived. No damage to the house. 

Trash Kicker: A man looking for recyclables was reported kicking over trash cans on Dickens Court. Police put the man on a timer.

Porch Pirates: Police maintained extra patrol in the Blithedale Avenue area following reports of packages being stolen from doorsteps.

Hit & Run: The driver’s side mirror of a car parked on Oakdale Avenue was reported knocked off by a hit and run driver. Report taken.

Open Fire: A resident on Forrest Street called police on his neighbor who is always burning stuff in a steel bin. He’s concerned about the nearby vegetation. Police directed the called to the Fire Department.

Hippie Car: A caller reported an “old hippie car” parked on Kipling Drive. Police looking into it.

Cash APP: A man told police he bought a couch online and paid with a cash app. Now his account is missing an additional $5,000. 

SAUSALITO

Hit & Run: A car was reported hit in front of a woman’s residence on Johnson Street on Dec. 19. Whoever hit the car did not stop. 

Down Line: A tree trimming company accidentally cut a limb from a tree and it fell into a power line on South Street. Police assisted the fire department in securing the area. 

Bike Stolen: A bike worth $2,000 was reported stolen on Dec. 15 in front of a bar on Bridgeway. It was left unlocked.

Burglary: A rental car was burglarized on Dec. 15 on Bridgeway. 

Laser: In one of the Christmas decorations on North Street there is a green laser that’s bugging the heck out of nearby residences. Police have been unable to locate the culprit. 

Boat Theft: A boat and trailer were reported stolen from the Army Corps Yard on Dec. 16.

Gas Leak: Police assisted the fire department in evacuations on Atwood Avenue following a reported gas leak. A private contractor hit a gas line. Gas was turned off to the area and the leak was capped.

Stolen Bikes: Eight bikes were stolen from a house on Sausalito Boulevard. 

Bar Fly: A woman bar patron who got verbally aggressive with everyone was 86’d from the premises on Dec. 20. Police were called to talk to the bar fly and settle down the situation. 

NOVATO

DUI Check: On Friday, Dec. 16, one driver was arrested for DUI (drugs) and for transportation of controlled substances for sale. There were 12 drivers cited for driving without a license at the DUI checkpoint, held at Rowland Blvd. and Leafwood Drive.1,222 total vehicles were contacted at the checkpoint, with 49 drivers directed to the secondary screening area. This DUI checkpoint was announced in advance and determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose of DUI checkpoints are to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the (NHTSA) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

    I’m sorry, I hope I’m not being insensitive or way off base, and if so, I apologize to whomever I may offend or to anyone that was a victim of a crime…. But….this stuff is hilarious! Is this how the reports were really written? Police were called to talk to the barfly?! S.W.A.T. wasn’t used in the typical matter in regards to a large spider that was really just a hairball?!! Keeping law enforcement on their toes over there in Marin County, huh??!!! R.O.F.L.
