California’s drought is over thanks to extra-big winter storms

Thanks to the big rains in 2023, the Bay Area and most of California are no longer in a drought. 

The rain has improved California soil moisture, stream flow and the snow pack and most reservoirs in the state have refilled to above normal, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, a weekly report issued by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the University of Nebraska.
