Marin 911: Dog rescued from apartment fire

First responders to a fire on Maple Street in Tam Valley on March 10 rescued a dog trapped on the balcony of an upper apartment. Thanks to the quick response and expertise of the first responders no one was hurt in the fire. The pooch, above with A firefighter, was soon returned to its human friends. 

SAUSALITO

Body Found: On Friday, March 10, 2023, at approximately 08:25 a.m. it was reported to 9-1-1 the remains of a human body were discovered by a passerby within the surf line of the Bay waters near the Spinnaker Restaurant in Sausalito.  First Responders were immediately dispatched to the area and located a fully clothed woman unconscious and unresponsive floating within the water.  She was immediately extricated, and physiologic signs of death were determined to be present. Her death was pronounced on the scene without resuscitative aid provided.  She has been identified as Carolynn Leslie Dean, 70, of Sausalito, CA.

Unwanted: A man police refer to as an “all points subject” hung around Gate 5 Road and refused to leave. He wore a brown hoodie, blue jeans, sandals and plastic bags as socks. 

Road Closed: The 100 block of Bret Harte Road was closed last Monday (March 12) briefly to clear downed trees and power lines from the roadway. PG&E turned the electricity off in the affected neighborhood. No one was injured and no homes were in danger.

CENTRAL MARIN POLICE

Head Banger: The Central Marin Police Authority received a call for service at approximately 10 a.m. from the Shell gas station, 295 Sir Francis Drake Blvd, Greenbrae, reporting a man in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle slamming his head against the steering wheel. The reporting parties believed the subject in the driver’s seat was possibly under the influence of narcotics and/or alcohol. Central Marin Police Officers arrived and contacted the subject. A California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer also arrived on scene. As the officers were evaluating the driver of the vehicle for being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, the subject attempted to start the vehicle against the officer’s orders. Due to the subject continuing to start the vehicle, his refusal to exit the vehicle, and his objective systems of being under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol, officers attempted to physically remove him from the driver’s seat. The subject immediately resisted and fought the officers’ attempt to remove him from the vehicle to prevent his flight. His combative behavior caused minor injuries to two CMPA officers and one CHP officer. Once out of the vehicle, he was arrested without further incident. Through the investigation the vehicle was discovered to be a reported stolen vehicle from the Town of Fairfax. The suspect was identified as a 45-year-old resident of Oakland, CA. The suspect admitted to recently ingesting heroin prior to contact with law enforcement. The suspect was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle, a repeat offender enhancement for prior felony convictions for possession of stolen vehicles, battery on police officers, resisting arrest, and public intoxication.

MILL VALLEY

Fire Death: On Thursday, March 9 at approximately 10 p.m. a residential structure fire was reported to 9-1-1 at 27 Midway Avenue, Mill Valley. Passersby’s observed smoke coming from the residence.  Firefighters and First Responders were immediately dispatched to the scene and determined the residence was actively on fire.  Firefighters forced their way into the residence and completed a search of the residence.  A woman  was discovered inside unresponsive and unconscious.  She was taken from the residence and determined to be in cardiopulmonary arrest.  Resuscitative medical aid was provided by paramedics, and she was transported from the scene to an area hospital where died. The woman’s identity remains presumptive at the time of this writing.  Her identification is pending positive identification confirmation via scientific comparison, which is in progress.  

Tree Down: Police helped the fire department respond to a tree down on Blithedale Avenue on March 10. Power lines were entangled.

Potholes: Patched potholes were sinking in the foul weather on March 10 on Sunnyside Avenue causing the police to watch the area for traffic problems.

Drunk: A soused customer of a bar on Corte Madera was escorted out of the establishment by the bouncer. The drunk got into an altercation with another customer and police were called. The drunk then stumbled out onto Throckmorton before police arrived and disappeared into the Mill Valley night.

Sex Assault: A Mill Valley student reported to police on March 13 a sexual assault by other students. Investigation continues.
