Calling high school theater kids

March 26, 2023 by Marin Leave a Comment

Attention Bay Area high school sophomores, juniors and seniors who love theater and putting on plays.

The Eugene O’Neill Foundation invites aspiring young actors, playwrights, and directors

to join a free, 10-day retreat, June 14-25 in the beautiful setting of Tao House.

Located in the East Bay hills in Danville, this National Historic Site was O’Neill’s home

for seven years, while the Nobel and Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright penned some of

the greatest works of American theater.

During the retreat, professional actors, writers and directors offer students a unique,

hands-on, collaborative experience. Over 10 days, students get to workshop ideas,

learn new techniques and grow as creative artists as they produce new, original works

of theater.

The retreat (with no class June 19 and 20) is open to all high school sophomores,

juniors, and seniors. The Eugene O’Neill Foundation is excited to welcome a diverse

group of students and strongly encourages all interested Bay Area students to apply for

the retreat. Transportation, lunch and snacks are provided. Funding comes from the

Dean and Margaret Lesher Foundation and the Wood Foundation, in partnership with

the Eugene O’Neill Foundation and the National Park Service.

Students can apply at https://eugeneoneill.org/studio-retreat-application/. State a

desired discipline – acting, writing or directing – and provide a personal statement about

reasons for applying and any relevant experience. Deadline for applications is May 1.

Students will be notified by May 15. For questions, students should email

taohouse.eonf@gmail.com
