Novato man and his dog found shot to death — 1st murder in 4 years

On Friday July 14, at about 4:30 p.m. Novato police officers were called to the area of Martin Dive near Lovejoy Way.  Police found Ray Allen Mays, 47, of Novato and a dog shot to death.

Two men were detained at the scene.

Paul Dwight, 65, of Novato was arrested for murder and animal cruelty. A second man, not immediately identified, was arrested for obstructing and delaying a police investigation.

Police said that Mays and Dwight were “roommates involved in a dispute over their housing arrangements.”
