No more ‘poverty tows’ in San Francisco

The First District Court of Appeal ruled last week that the city of San Francisco must end so-called “poverty tows.” 

The city had been towing cars that were parked legally, but owned by people who had not paid parking tickets. 

The court ruled that the practice is a “significant intrusion on property rights that may seriously impact the lives of the owners.” 

A city spokesman said they were “disappointed” in the ruling.
