Eleven drivers were cited while the Novato police conducted a DUI checkpoint on July 3.
The checkpoint was held at the intersection of South Novato Boulevard and Redwood Boulevard. It was set from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Eleven drivers were cited for operating a vehicle while unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license. There were no DUI arrests, but one driver was cited for having an open container of alcohol in their vehicle.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
As businesses continue to reopen, including bars and restaurants, impaired driving remains a top traffic safety concern, police said in a press release.
