The San Rafael Police Department took a report this week of a stolen tractor from a construction site. A short time later, SRPD Officers then went to a report of a suspiciously abandoned tractor and trailer that was left in the middle of a parking lot.
The officers quickly put 2 and 2 together and determined that the tractor in the trailer was from the earlier stolen report. The trailer was also determined to be stolen. It appeared that suspects used the stolen trailer to steal the tractor. Through the early investigation, the suspects were unable to properly tow the trailer with the getaway truck and they abandoned it when the trailer hitch failed.
Officers are working with leads to determine the identification of the suspects involved.
The tractor and the trailer are being returned to the rightful owners.
